This was my first time photographing at an event. The whole shabang. Me, a photographer. I was very nervous at first. You don’t want to an annoyance or distraction. I love taking candid portraits of people. I have taken photography classes at ARC along with design and Art New Media. Currently studying Portait/Fashion/Wedding Photography.
These were taken at the Sac Pin Party at Nordstrom, hosted by Julie Gallaher. I believe Julie started the concept of a pin party. I attended the first one at Swabbies on the River last summer. Pinterest is very popular and many brands use it to not only promote but find out what is most popular.
We were at Nordstrom’s with their Sacramento Arden store manager and the social media team taking a tour and learning how they use Pinterest to know what items to keep stocked in the store.
Some things Nordstrom buys are in limited quantities so that when a person purchases it they know it is not something everyone will be wearing. Once they sell, they don’t bring it back.
While Nordstrom is known for designer merchandise, they also have affordable products. Each of us on the tour were gifted a $10 card to spend in the store. I bought a big coffee mug from the Home Decor dept. for $12.00. I think the majority of us loved the Home department the most.
During the tour everyone was taking pictures with their phones and posting them directly to the Sac Pin Party Nordstrom Pinterest Board.
I’m usually very shy about showing my work and even my writing. I joke with my friend, Sherree, that I purposely write bad headlines so I’m not found and the name of my blog is not easy to spell. Lately I have felt like my photos are good enough. I’m not the best, but I don’t have to be. I see people working and I look at their work and think, “I can do that.” I’m a photographer, a writer, designer, an artist. I don’t do it because I want attention. I do it because it is in my soul. I have to. I do it for me. When remember this I can be comfortable hitting the publish button.
